I came accross Stephen’s work for the first time through David Cass, after their mutual residency in Florence supported by the John Kinross Scholarship. Since then, Stephen has shown an indepth connection with materials he works with, with exquisite execution both in 2D and 3D. I was drawn to Stephen’s reserach and exploration where these works were procured after a reserach trip he undertook late 2012 in Southeast Asia. There was an inquiry regarding abandoned spaces, with latent energy that appealed to me. Stephen’s practice evolved to other work and leading resoration projects such as the long lost Mackintosh tea room now exhibited at the V&A Dundee.
