05003034 was my student identification card number at Edinburgh College of Art 2006-2010. This work was a direct response fulfilling the requirement from Malta Arts Scholarships to show ‘something/anything’ for the inauguration of the award at Auberge de Castille. 2010 was a year of many discoveries, changes and decisions. My grandfather relocated this door from Bormla where it was sited during WW2, but I always knew it enclosing the garden shed. Out of necessity and curiosity/fascination with this object, I wanted to make an intervention response to it. I recall my father getting worked up with regards to my intention of showing this ‘door’ at the office of the Prime Minister on this occasion, where comparisons could be drawn with Ġaħan and the popular Maltese narrative where he unhinged his home door. I remember out of respect, mostly to my sister’s pleas, I have included a few drawings in this inauguration. There is something in my process of working where I like to amend objects from their intended purpose to that of art. This door will be returned to its original purpuse albeit in a slightly amended form.
